The Orlean Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department plans to buy a new Pierce engine, similar to this one.
By Allison Jackson Orlean
Every year, the Orlean Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department Inc. (OVFRD) is fortunate to receive annual operational funding through the Fauquier Fire Tax Levy, but that does not meet all of our needs. We need additional funding to procure fire and medical equipment, protective gear for fire and rescue personnel and for the maintenance of the station.
Our current fire engine is over 24 years old and maintenance costs have reached the point where it would be more cost-effective for us to replace it with a new model, which will serve the community for the next quarter century. In scoping out the cost for a new engine, we have learned that the price is more than double what we paid those many years ago. And so, we are beginning a fundraising campaign to help us defray a portion of the cost.
Thanks to our community, the St. Paddy’s Drive-Thru Dinner was a big hit! We now look forward to seeing you at the Mother’s Day Brunch Drive-Thru on Sunday, May 9, followed by our Father’s Day Breakfast on Sunday, June 20. This will be our first indoor breakfast held in the fabulous, new Company 11 hall.
