Mr. Pappas, a Fauquier High School graduate and former NCAA champion at Greensboro College, defeated his friend and nemesis, three-time club champion Charlie Peavley. Mr. Pappas twice has won the FCSS championship.
Ms. Mulford won her first championship on the Par-71 course west of Warrenton, defeating 12-time champion Nadine Burner.
With two holes remaining, the new champion led the match-play tournament final round by 2. Ms. Mulford won the 17th hole to seal the victory.
A relative newcomer to the sport, Ms. Mulford in recent years worked with former PGA tour player and local instructor Mike Wynn to improve her game.
In the men’s tournament, Mr. Pappa led by 7 with six holes to play. Mr. Peavley, who played at Christopher Newport University, couldn’t catch him at that point.
In the elimination tournament, the men played 36 holes in the championship round and the women played 18.
