The county school system tentatively plans traditional graduation ceremonies May 24-27.
Fauquier County Public Schools on Tuesday morning announced a tentative schedule of graduation dates for the Class of 2021.
For family and friends’ planning, the school system anticipates that high school graduation dates will be:
• Monday, May 24 – Southeastern Alternative School (time TBD).
• Tuesday, May 25 – Kettle Run High School at 6 p.m.
• Wednesday, May 26 – Fauquier High School at 6 p.m.
• Thursday, May 27 – Liberty High School at 7 p.m.
The schedule assumes traditional graduation ceremonies will take place.
If COVID-19 pandemic restrictions limit the size of gatherings, the graduation ceremonies will move to the week of June 7, schools spokeswoman Tara Helkowski said.
“Please, note that these dates and times may be subject to change due to calendar revisions, facility availability or weather-related issues,” Ms. Helkowski added.

So let's me get this straight.
The US colonies win independence. They propose a new government based on the Western evolution of liberty and common law. The founders recognize evils of the institution of slavery but are opposed by one of the world's superpowers. Instead, they kick the can down the road. Meanwhile established Western governments are on the same liberty track. Governments (and slave owners) that have the resources and morale inclination to abolish slavery do so. Recall that the Dutch who were the largest perpetrators only did so during our Civil War. 80 years later divided America is forced to confront the moral and power dynamic through violence. This is not surprising since you have to take property/capital (which is what slaves were considered for all time) by force if you don't offer something of equal value in exchange.
Where did I defend American corporations? Large governments and corporations will always exploit people. This is what humans have done to each other throughout all time unfortunately.
I pointed out the 3/5 Compromise because it was a POWER tradeoff, which allowed the South to stand on equal political footing with the North. Without this the South would have had poor representation and little incentive to stay within the union. You act like slavery only existed within the context of the trans-Atlantic slave trade. Few claim the founders are perfect - nobody is, but they were certainly ahead of their time in recognizing the evils of slavery. @karl you clearly have a very myopic view of history that is perhaps distorted by the ideals of Marxism.

Americans are not exceptional, but the ideals and concepts enshrined in the Declaration Independence and Constitution are. Politicians love to toot our horn though don't they.
As in every war in history, the American Civil War was about power. Forced labor was capital. 3/5 compromise ring a bell? If America had the resources to compensate slave owners as a means of achieving peaceful abolition, it probably would have happened, but America didn't have the means as a young, vulnerable nation that relied heavily on slave labor in the South. England did this and it cost a massive amount of their GDP, amortized over 150+ years!
1619 project is a farce. You might want to more critically examine the ramblings of NHJ. But it sounds like you are a county teacher... I'll remind you that the western world is responsible for the eradication of slavery. Slavery still exists in parts of the Middle East, Africa, and China.

Karl, I completely agree with your statement! Nicely said.

Relax Karl, racism has nothing to do with it. Schools should NEVER become re-education camps. Let’s get back to math, science, history, english, art, phys-ed, etc. I don’t want anyone altering history books removing our founding fathers, scientists, etc. I fear that’s coming.
Even Fairfax county will be spending close to a billion to get rid of their name in the near future. I wish they would put that money into their lower income minority groups that really need it.

**believes but it’s just weird to complain about something that has already passed and clearly you have a problem with your kid being “brainwashed”... move them to a different county if you really have a problem with teachers bringing light to an issue that a lot of people don’t like talking about. i doubt you have address students sending death threats to students that are different then them. what about some of our students being homophobic and racist. be real and address problems that really matter.
juddyjolicoeur_ · February 22, 2021 at 12:23 am
i swear parents hear the term “cancel culture” and run with it. you have no proof saying that everyone in this county believe in the statement black lives matter. you’re complaining about our teachers being “anti-trump” yet you won’t focus in on the real problems; covid relief, anti semitic messages, racial prejudice and so on.
Demosthenes · February 20, 2021 at 9:17 pm
Given that the majority of our Senate voted to say that Trump was guilty of inciting insurrection against our government (and those who voted to acquit explained that away with legal arguments about the role of impeachment) one might argue that any teacher who is anti-Trump might just be pro-Democracy. I'm not gonna fault them for that.

Tucker Carlson on Fox News tonight specifically called out Fauquier County schools as a school system that is currently brainwashing our children with Deep Equity training which is pushing BLM and Cancel Culture down our children’s throats. Yes he said “brainwashing”. My child told me he doesn’t want to go to Fauquier county schools anymore because he was watching this on TV with me. He’s mad and I agree. When he would come home some days and point out his teachers are completely anti-Trump I didn’t think too much about it, not anymore. Our school board will be looking for new jobs!
