Fauquier County schools students deserve better

By Jennifer Caine
Warrenton

At the August school board meeting, Superintendent Jeck recommended Fauquier public schools stay virtual until January.

Currently, the county is spending $100,000 on cameras so virtual students can watch “teacher TV.” Switching to hybrid instruction on Nov. 9 is unfair to students, teachers and parents.

This date bisects our second quarter for elementary and middle schools and final quarter for high school courses. Why are we switching with so little time left in the semester? High schoolers will be disadvantaged as they try to prepare for SOLs and finals. Elementary and middle students will receive LESS live instruction from teachers. In the hybrid plan, they will be on their own three days a week with no teacher interaction. Currently, students engage four of five days a week.

Teaching both virtual and in-person creates an inequitable situation for all. Teachers focusing on safety protocols in the classroom while dividing their attention between both groups means one group will get less instruction.

Fauquier’s COVID positivity rate is 4.1 percent. What rate causes a return to all virtual? Citizens deserve transparency on mitigation plans, PPE availability, mask enforcement and bus safety.

Dr. Jeck says schedules and teachers will not change. I respectfully disagree. The county has not surveyed teachers; there is no way to know if your child’s teacher will still be teaching.

It seems to me that this decision made first and now the county is frantically working on the details. Sound decisions by strong leaders are not made this way and Fauquier students deserve
better.

I am making $165 an hour working from home. i was greatly surprised at the same time as my neighbor advised me she changed into averaging $ninety five however I see the way it works now. I experience masses freedom now that i’m my non-public boss.

We witness over and over again, the compelling cases that the best remedy for the evils of our modern, Prussian-styled public school system outrages and Radical Cultural Marxism Indoctrinations, would be for parents to withdraw their children from these public schools in favor of home schooling curriculums, community Hedge Schools or private schools.

The school system is like government. They close everything but their revenue stream. If everyone who is adamant for shutting down over a flu lost THEIR paychecks, this would have been done and gone in April.

We need to do away with the public school system. Give us all back our tax money so it can be spent more wisely. Schools have become indoctrination centers for the Left.

The teachers union issued orders to members to do a full court press to resist school reopenings including asking union members to write op-eds with all of their Covid fear mongering.

Everyone else is back to work. Teachers need to get back to work or retire.

You have the option to keep your kids home.

Virtual school for my 1st and 2nd graders is dismal. Teachers are doing their best, but it just isn't working.

In-person 5 days a week for my preschooler is going great! Because he's in a private school that's actually open. And still no Wuflu there.

It's very cool when gamers communicate with each other and share useful information. I also have something to share with you, for example the site https://askboosters.com/destiny-2/ where professional boosters help you to increase your rating in your favorite game. I find it very convenient, especially for those who do not have time for this.
