Hating Trump “isn’t standing up for anything”

By Phil Kasky
Warrenton

I was sitting across the aisle from a woman on a long flight home from Seattle recently. My clothing was conservative and I said nothing I know of that might have revealed my political leanings, but shortly after takeoff, the lady asked me what I thought of President Trump’s chances for reelection.

Nowadays I avoid engaging in political dialogue with strangers, but I obliged her with a head bob and the thumbs up sign. “Why,” she asked? “Can you name just one thing that Trump has done that makes you proud of him?”

Oh boy, I thought, I’m heading into a trap, but quickly rattled off about 10 noteworthy achievements.

“Proof is important, can you state the facts to support your claims?” she asked. The interrogation had begun. Reluctantly, but confidently I started with the economy, job growth, record low unemployment especially among African Americans, Hispanics, Asians, women, home construction. In this COVID era we’re in, numbers are changing rapidly, so I didn’t have the most recent statistics available at my fingertips.

“There!” she said, “you can’t prove what you say.” I continued, then there’s the reshoring of manufacturing businesses back to the U.S. because of the president’s initiative. Thousands of jobs are returning from overseas, namely from China and Mexico. There’s more the president is doing, I said, but the trend has begun and the numbers are increasing monthly. She challenged my comments with, “give me the numbers.” Whew!

I continued with how the U.S. has become the world’s largest producer of oil, ending our reliance on foreign purchase and helping to further boost our economy and employment, instead of adding to foreign treasuries. “Fracking is ruining the environment,” she lamented. I told her I didn’t think the science was on her side with that statement. “Everybody knows it!” was her reply. Then adding, “and he’s a liar.” I asked for an example. I got another, “everybody knows it,” response.

Trump’s also shoring up our southern border and has built hundreds of miles of new fence that protects our sovereignty, reduces influx of illegal immigrants, drugs and sex-trafficking, I told her. Now the lady was really getting irritated and shot back that “the whole wall is so shoddily constructed that it’s falling down.” No, I said, one small section that was built on a steep grade came down due to erosion from heavy rainfall, but that it was quickly repaired.

I added that drug prices in the U.S. were coming down after significant price increases under Obama, and as I continued with my list of the president’s accomplishments, I paused and asked her this simple question. “Just what has Joe Biden done in his 47 years of government service that makes you proud of him?” She snapped, “That’s not the issue.” I waited, watching the expression on her face as it turned bitter, when she finally got to the core of how she felt. “I hate Trump and everything he stands for. He has accomplished nothing! He’s divisive. I would vote for a tree stump before voting to reelect Donald Trump,” she fumed.

I felt sorry for that lady, or anyone who so hates a man that they would rather see an entire nation flounder, than vote for someone who was actually moving our country to so many successes. And a tree stump won’t solve the trend we are already witnessing with the left’s support of anarchists, rioters and looters. Note that it took four months for democrat leadership to finally say publicly they don’t support Antifa, or rioting, or looting, and only then because it was politically expedient after watching our cities burn. Did you hear Joe Biden say during the debate that Antifa was only an “idea?” Have you ever seen an idea burn down so many buildings across our nation? And he recently said he supported redirecting funds from the police (read defund the police). Now he’s flip-flopped on the issue because of the heat he’s taking. He is so easily swayed by progressive opinion and yields so much of what he might have once stood for. And his cognitive decline is apparent.

Progressive ideology (I link this term with hard left liberal thinkers) cannot and will not accept conservative governance, especially with this president. They cannot acknowledge one thing for which he deserves credit. They refute everything (I refer to the lady on my flight).

Certainly, President Trump has flaws. He is unorthodox and breaks from the traditional political box to which we hold our presidents, and his outspoken nature often doesn’t help his own cause. He is not a cultured politician, thank God. But his accomplishments are many and I have never seen a president fight so endlessly to fulfill his campaign promises to the American people. And he has repeatedly been attacked as a hateful man, yet the evidence I see from the left’s political leadership (Pelosi, Schumer, Schiff, Nadler and the entire shameful hoard who conspire to destroy him) are vicious, hateful, demeaning and are beneath the dignity of the offices to which they were elected. I include the mainstream media with that derogatory remark. No new war in four years and two historic Middle East peace deals orchestrated by the Trump administration in recent weeks and mainstream media remains silent on these remarkable achievements.

In the presidential debate Biden said that Trump was a divider, a hateful man, and he wasn’t presidential. Yet on public stage Biden called Trump a clown, a fool, a liar (numerous times), and told him to shut-up. Presidential, huh? And the liar...Biden is pathological!

In 1987 during Biden’s first presidential run, he was caught plagiarizing multiple famous speeches by such notables as British Labour Party Leader Neil Kinnock, the late Robert Kennedy, another by former President John Kennedy, and yet another from Hubert Humphrey. Biden lied about his academic awards, lied about scholarships, lied about his ranking at Syracuse Law School where he was nearly kicked out for plagiarizing five entire pages of an essay written by someone else. Biden claimed in this campaign that he graduated in the top half of his law school class. Another lie...he graduated in the very bottom 10 percent of his class. During the same campaign he also claimed to have received three degrees from undergraduate school...another falsehood. Biden later had to concede that he made some errors in his comments.

He made multiple false claims about marching in the Civil Rights movement saying he marched with tens of thousands of others to change attitudes. He dropped out of his presidential run after admitting they were false.

Biden calls Trump a liar...never cites about what, but it’s Biden who recently made false claims about attending Delaware State University, a predominantly African American college. Only...another lie. He was awarded an honorary doctoral degree there as a commencement keynote speaker. The school refutes that Biden ever attended. You might want to check out the false story Biden has been telling of traveling to Afghanistan in 2008 and presenting a Silver Star to a Navy captain for trying to rescue a soldier under fire (Aug 29, 2019 Washington Post fact check).

An honest man, secure in his moral convictions, confident in his abilities, and proud of his achievements, would not have reason to foolishly inflate his image with such incredulous falsehoods. Joe Biden does not possess these qualities. Biden cannot be trusted with the presidency of our great country and nothing good will get accomplished if led by such a man.

Hating the president as much as the woman I spoke with on my flight isn’t standing up for anything. It’s hoping that our country fails. Donald Trump will tirelessly continue to work for you. The alternative is the tree stump.

Today there are LESS manufacturing jobs than when Trump was inaugurated.

Carrier - remember them? Closed up and moved to Mexico, after all the deals with Trump.

FoxConn - A 10 Billion dollar deal, denied special tax credits because they did not honor original commitments.

So much for the deal maker and manufacturing in the U S of A.

Regardless of the topic of your conversation, if you held it across the aisle, you totally annoyed and disrupted other passengers. That's very, very rude. But, you're a Trumpie, so no surprise.

I don't hate Trump, he is nothing, it's what he has brought out of the woodwork and encourages Americans to fight fellow Americans, that I hate.

This opinion writing and the one by the retired Army vet share common messages on supporting Trump.

And those messages are not positive if examined closely. If fact, they are some sort of fantasy reality.

Here is what this Trump Administration has brought forth:

Civil Unrest
Distrust in government and science
NO promised immigration reforms
NO checks from Mexico on the Southern Border
NO healthcare plan
NO infrastructure plan
NO improvements in Military readiness, nor increases in combat ready assets

A three trillion dollar wealth transfer from the US Treasury to "stimulate the economy"
Biggest drop in GDP ever

NO Pandemic recovery plan
220+ Americans - dead.

10's of Millions still unemployed.
10's of Thousands of businesses shuttered.

Ask yourself, what is the immediate and long term plan to recover America? Socially? Economically? Spiritually?

The time of the Trump "republican" is over. It will be a dark void in American history.

"Once there was a shepherd boy, who had to look after a flock of sheep. One day, he felt bored and decided to play a trick on the villagers. He shouted, “Help! Wolf! Wolf!”

The villagers heard his cries and rushed out of the village to help the shepherd boy. When they reached him, they asked, “Where is the wolf?”

The shepherd boy laughed loudly, “Ha, Ha, Ha! I fooled you all. I was only playing a trick on you.”

A few days later, the shepherd boy played the trick again.

He cried, “Help! Help! Wolf! Wolf!” Again, the villagers rushed up the hill to help him and again they found that the boy had tricked them. They were very angry with him for being so naughty.

Then, sometime later, a wolf really went into the field. The wolf attacked one sheep, and then another and another. The shepherd boy ran towards the village shouting, “Help! Help! Wolf! Help! Somebody!”

The villagers heard his cries but they laughed because they thought it was just another trick.

The boy ran to the nearest villager and said, “A wolf is attacking the sheep. I lied before, but this time it is true!”

Finally, the villagers went to look. It was true. They could see the wolf running away and many dead sheep lying on the grass.

We may not believe someone who often tells lies, even when he tells the truth."

Hating Trump “isn’t standing up for anything” - it's standing by to make sure he is removed from our planet by any means necessary.

RUNNING LIKE A RABBIT!

President Donald Trump abruptly ended a solo interview with CBS News' "60 Minutes" Tuesday and did not return for an appearance he was supposed to tape with Vice President Mike Pence, according to multiple sources familiar with what happened.

After camera crews set up at the White House on Monday, Trump sat down with host Lesley Stahl for about 45 minutes on Tuesday before he abruptly ended the interview and told the network he believed they had enough material to use, according to two sources.

"He said, 'You know why I do it? I do it to discredit you all and demean you all so when you write negative stories about me, no one will believe you.' He said that"!

ConcernedMom - Would you prefer sexist over ignorant? Saying I sound like I am bitter is a word used on women generally, as is complaining.

Trump is already saying at rallies that he may have to leave the country if he isn't reelected. He is planning his exit strategy better than he has planned anything else in this country. Russia? Any country without an extradition agreement with the USA? How many millions/billions of dollars of other people's money is he taking with him?

"Dr. Fauci is one of our country's most distinguished public servants. He has served 6 presidents, starting with Ronald Reagan," Alexander wrote on Twitter Monday afternoon. "If more Americans paid attention to his advice, we'd have fewer cases of COVID-19, & it would be safer to go back to school & back to work & out to eat."

When did Lamar Alexander become a far-left anti-Trump Soros-worshiping socialist?????

Questions for Trump at the Debate (if there is one):

Families:
Why do you oppose a raise in the minimum wage?
Why are you supporting a lawsuit to invalidate the entire Affordable Care Act?
What plan, if any, do you have for child care?
Why did your administration propose a rule on overtime pay that would leave out 8.2 million Americans and cost workers $1.2 billion in lost wages this year alone, compared to the Obama-era rule?
Why do you oppose free college tuition for lower income Americans?
The economic recession has disproportionately hit lower income workers. What are you doing for them? Why did you oppose continuing the weekly $600 federal supplement to unemployment benefits?

Race in America:
You often frame policies that promote integration as efforts to destroy the suburbs. Why?
Why did you never appoint any Black judge to a federal appellate court?
Why do you deny that there is systemic racism in policing, housing, wealth accumulation, education and other facets of American life? What accounts for the Black/White divide?
Why do you have no senior Black advisers in the White House?
Why did you offer a defense for Kyle Rittenhouse, the teen charged with murdering two protesters in Kenosha, Wis.?
How many Black friends do you have with whom, for example, you regularly share a meal, celebrate family milestones or get together at the holidays?
Why have hate crimes risen under your administration?

Climate change:
What did the Paris accord actually obligate America to do?
Do you deny that climate change increases the occurrence of extreme weather?
The coal industry has continued to shed jobs under your administration. Why did you fail in your promise to sustain coal miners?
Why did you roll back car emission standards over the objections of the auto industry?
Your own Labor Department’s Bureau of Labor Statistics found that “the two occupations that BLS projects to have the fastest employment growth from 2016 to 2026 — solar photovoltaic installers (105-percent increase) and wind turbine service technicians (96-percent increase) — involve ‘green’ work.” Why, then, do you claim that green energy development is a job loser?
Why did you advance the false claim that wind turbines cause cancer?

National security:
Is Russia an authoritarian state? Has its government poisoned political opponents?
Why won’t you confront Russian President Vladimir Putin on human rights, on interfering in our election, on bounties placed on U.S. troops, on war crimes in Syria or on its support for Venezuela dictator Nicolás Maduro?
Did the Saudi crown prince participate in the brutal murder of Jamal Khashoggi?
Did you signal approval for China’s detention camps for Uighurs?
How is NATO funded?
You conferred on North Korea dictator Kim Jong Un legitimacy by multiple summits and defending his human rights record. In exchange, we got nothing from the regime on denuclearization. Were you conned?
You promised that by pulling out of the Iran nuclear deal, you would isolate the regime and obtain new concessions. Instead, we are isolated from allies and Iran has continued beyond enrichment levels specified in the Iran deal. What went wrong?
Why do polls show the United States is less respected under your presidency than under President Barack Obama’s?

Leadership:
Did you set a good example for America’s children by paying off women with whom you allegedly had extramarital affairs?
When you personally insult and attack political opponents on Twitter, do you diminish respect for the office you hold?
Why do you so often dismiss “blue states” and “blue cities”? Don’t you have a responsibility to look after all Americans regardless of how they voted?
Why do you incite hatred against Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D), including by supporting chants at one of your recent rallies to “lock her up”? After law enforcement foiled an alleged plot to kidnap Whitmer, isn’t this dangerous?
Why do you think so many military leaders and former national security officials have spoken out against your reelection?
Do you want your voters who cannot get to the polls or fear getting sick to vote by mail? Will their votes be legitimate? There is no evidence of widespread fraud in U.S. elections, so why do you continue to claim otherwise?
Do you bear responsibility for the White House event that appears to have been a covid-19 superspreader event? Why have you prevented your doctors from giving a full accounting of your health?"

"The best defense is a good offense" We've all heard this saying before. It's a favorite tactic of the Republican party, and Donald Trump. Go on the attack and try to overwhelm the public with so much confusion and false statements, forcing your opponent to expend a tremendous amount of energy on defending the facts.

Mr. Kasky's piece is an example of this tactic.
Here's an example.
“Fracking is ruining the environment,” she lamented. I told her I didn’t think the science was on her side with that statement.
The truth is that the EPA concluded that fracking has negatively impacted
drinking water. As well, recent studies are establishing a link between fracking and a rise in greenhouse gas emissions, due to methane being released during the fracking process.

Another example?
"Trump’s also shoring up our southern border and has built hundreds of miles of new fence that protects our sovereignty, reduces influx of illegal immigrants, drugs and sex-trafficking, I told her. Now the lady was really getting irritated and shot back that “the whole wall is so shoddily constructed that it’s falling down.” No, I said, one small section that was built on a steep grade came down due to erosion from heavy rainfall, but that it was quickly repaired."
Facts: almost all of Trumps wall is repairing/replacing existing border wall. The only new wall built was on private land, using private money, and is in danger of falling down due to shoddy construction. Independent engineers have stated that the construction method and location of the wall on the banks of the Rio Grand leave it highly vulnerable to flooding and failure.

This is not the bigger picture though. Republicans understand that America is, in fact, becoming more progressive, and they can't stand it. It has been that way since it's founding. Thomas Jefferson said the constitution should be examined once every generation. And in fact, we have done this, adding amendments where necessary. Equal protection laws, voting rights, civil rights, Civil Rights Act, etc. There are so many examples.

What we are witnessing now is a last-gasp attempt to hold on to power. If you watch Trump on the campaign trail, it is apparent. His only tactic now is to sow fear, because he is scared.

Frederick Douglas said "power concedes nothing without a fight."
The harder Trump squeezes, the more it slips through his fingers.

What is wrong with a little levity -- unless you are not a true and proud Trump fart-sniffer??? And when you say perverse, you are of course referring to President Donald J. Trump, right? He's the one that called scientists stupid, and that is perverse.

President Donald Trump portrays the hundreds of people arrested nationwide in protests against racial injustice as violent urban left-wing radicals. But an Associated Press review of thousands of pages of court documents tell a different story.

Very few of those charged appear to be affiliated with highly organized extremist groups, and many are young suburban adults from the very neighborhoods Trump vows to protect from the violence in his reelection push to win support from the suburbs.

Attorney General William Barr has urged his prosecutors to bring federal charges on protesters who cause violence and has suggested that rarely used sedition charges could apply. And the Department of Justice has pushed for detention even as prisons across the U.S. were releasing high-risk inmates because of COVID-19 and prosecutors had been told to consider the risks of incarceration during a pandemic when seeking detention.

Defense attorneys and civil rights activists are questioning why the Department of Justice has taken on cases to begin with. They say most belong in state court, where defendants typically get much lighter sentences. And they argue federal authorities appear to be cracking down on protesters in an effort to stymie demonstrations.

“It is highly unusual, and without precedent in recent American history,” said Ron Kuby, a longtime attorney who isn’t involved in the cases but has represented scores of clients over the years in protest-related incidents. “Almost all of the conduct that’s being charged is conduct that, when it occurs, is prosecuted at the state and local level.”

It's impossible to respond succinctly to the many points made by the Trump supporters in this and other posts. For me though Trump's mishandling of the Covid crisis by itself is more than enough to justify a vote against him. From the start, Trump's response has been based on wishful thinking rather than reality. He initially dismissed the epidemic as fake news and a hoax, viewing it as a plot against him by his political opponents. Even after it became abundantly clear that it was quite real, Trump did not change his tune, but instead rejected the advice of his own scientific team, failed to implement an effective national plan and indeed encouraged his base supporters to engage in highly risky conduct which no doubt has actually increased the virus spread. Moreover, he has harshly criticized - and even encouraged his supporters to take violent action against - public figures such as Michigan Gov. Whitmer who have pursued the science based policies to fight the epidemic which are supported by a significant majority of the public. As a result, the virus is uncontrolled and again surging, and tens if not hundreds of thousands have died needlessly. I'm 65, and no President in my lifetime has so miserably failed to respond to such a significant threat to the public health and safety. I'm voting Biden.

Trump: a malignancy on America eroding our democratic institutions and Constitution. He has clearly demonstrated his toxicity of arrogance, ignorance, incompetence, and lack of leadership. How can any sane person vote for someone who is a relentless unapologetic and unrepentant chronic liar? Our "Dear Leader" is morally bankrupt, ethically bankrupt, and clearly intellectually bankrupt. He excels in creating chaos, fear-mongering, gas lighting, dividing (rather than uniting) people, and eliciting uncertainty in the populace, then following up by stating that he, and he alone, can fix everything (after all, he is "The Chosen One"). He really doesn't care about you or me or our democracy. He only cares about himself and how he can continue to use his presidency for his own personal gain (and perhaps his buddy, Vlad, in Moscow). It's the government "of the Trump, by the Trump, and for Trump" no matter the consequences. The body America needs to extirpate the cancer that is Trump and his family of grifters that have invaded our democracy. Derail the Trump Train and defeat the Florida orange.

The Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit rules that Trump’s use of military funds for his wall on the U.S.-Mexico border is illegal.

Facebook, Twitter and YouTube take down a video by right-wing outlet Breitbart that was shared by Donald Jr. and retweeted by Trump, and contained false information about the coronavirus.

Pompeo breaks precedent and possibly the law in his convention speech, recorded from the roof of the King David Hotel in Jerusalem.

Trump denies an allegation published in the Atlantic that he had called members of the military “suckers” and “losers,” calling the article “a hoax” and seeming to suggest instead that generals are trying to enrich corporations.

The radical leftists have taken over the Republican party!!! All the people in the Lincoln Project are former Republican deep-state leftists with Q-Anon ties to George Soros!!!!

Only Donald Trump can save the Republican party. Heil TRUMP!!! Put all your political enemies in the gulags!!! I mean Biden is the one telling people to throw his political enemies in jail, right???

"Truth and Reconciliation Commission" - do an internet search on that little ditty.

Leftists are now welcoming yet another Orwellian notion. And why not? South Africa did it. Seems so innocuous and it can be yet another government bureaucracy that can employ otherwise useless Leftist pundits. I mean, really. The Catholics have their confessionals. The Truth and Reconciliation Commission could be the perfect addition to the burgeoning National Leftists Religion. It's very own confessional!

Keep it up, folks. The Gulags are not far behind and a vote for Biden brings it all one step closer.

We refuse to engage with the radical left. Most of the media is owned by 7 liberal men so she doesn't think for herself or she graduated from a liberal school. She is an example of why you should put your child in a private school. People like her need to work in a trauma center and see first hand the work of MS 13 gang or hold a child's hand during a sexual assault exam after being raped dozens of times due to sex trafficking, or delivering a baby after a rape. These people hire illegals instead of Americans creating criminal competition while their illegals get emergent medicaid and welfare and our seniors on fixed incomes have to move out of FC because there are no assisted living facilities in this area for them. She needs to watch a family member get turned down for housing or put on a wait list. She lives in the bubble created by the media while 11 million illegals absorb American resources while our teachers and police officers get skipped over for raises and benefits. The businesses that hire illegals instead of Americans lie and say they can't recruit or retain Americans while they laugh themselves all the way to the banks. She is the reason to push for school vouchers. Stop donating to liberals and their associations. Planned parenthood and colectiva donate to liberal politicians which include medical doctors who ignore their oath of do no harm. She has the gall to question your conservatism.

God bless Phil Kasky! Great article. If been running into this issue with a new person just about weekly for the past couple of years. The liberal answer to why reminds me of my grade school years of when you ask why and and they answer “becuase, just cuz” and that’s it.
DonkeyFarmer · October 19, 2020 at 9:32 pm
Mr. Kasky, was the shrieking woman unkempt and covered in cat hair? I ask this because you might have been flying with Linda Ward. Sounds just like her.
Linda Ward · October 19, 2020 at 8:40 pm
Runner - I'm not going to get into a comparison contest on if Trump or Biden is the worst liar. Politicians should list on their resumes "professional liar". It's that this conversation with the woman on the plane did not happen. Unless he was taping it, there is no way he remembered it verbatim.
Runner · October 19, 2020 at 8:28 pm
Ms. Ward, everything Mr. Kasky states about Trump and Biden is factual and verifiable. Fact checking is easy, just learn to use key words in your search like, “What lies has Joe Biden told,” and see what you find. The list is endless. And maybe watch something other than CNN. There’s a whole world of truth out there for you to discover.

Excellent op-ed, Mr. Kasky.

The Left has been exposed for what they are; bitter losers. They have brought about a secular religion of hate. In spite of the fact that they criticize the use of terms like "In God We Trust" in government institutions and point to it as an example of a violation of the "separation of church and state", they have now installed Leftism as the unconstitutional, defacto national religion. You must believe as they believe or you are Hitler. Your children must attend the approved indoctrination centers to ensure that they learn to be good Leftist adherents (and they can learn to write as well as Linda).

I think he was sitting across the aisle from Ms. Ward. An accusatory "conversation" driven by nothing but rage and hatred.

Oh, please, your script is fiction, get another writer.
