Community credit union promotes Waln and Black

Fiona Waln has been named manager of the Blackwell Road branch and Samantha Black has been named community relations specialist.
The UVA Community Credit Union has named Fiona Waln manager of its Blackwell Road branch in Warrenton.

Ms. Waln succeeds Samantha Black, who has been named community relations specialist for the credit union.

Ms. Waln has 25 years of experience in the financial industry. She began her career as a teller and has worked as a loan processor, loan officer, assistant branch manager, branch manager and electronic funds transfer processor. Most recently, manage the credit union’s Vint Hill branch.

As branch manager, Ms. Waln is responsible for day-to-day operations as well as business development, business relations and personnel development.

“Fiona has done an outstanding job serving members in our Vint Hill branch and we are thrilled she will continue to serve Fauquier County at our branch on Blackwell Road,” President/CEO Alison DeTuncq, President/CEO of UVA Community Credit Union.

“I am excited about the opportunity to continue to serve our members in Fauquier County,” Ms. Waln said. “It is my pleasure to help my friends, neighbors and fellow community members navigate the process of purchasing a home, starting a business, saving for college and planning for retirement.”

Ms. Black’s new position focuses on financial education programs, sponsorships and donations as well as community events in Fauquier, Culpeper, Orange, and Rappahannock counties.

She has worked in financial services for the last eight years. Ms. Black also manages local sponsorships and donations and serves on the credit union’s scholarship review committee that awards a total of $27,000 to 18 high school students each year.

“During my time as branch manager, I saw firsthand how our community relations programs directly impacts our members,” Ms. Black said. “I am passionate about helping our members, and the community-at-large, and am excited to share my knowledge of our products and services through financial education and sponsorship opportunities.”
