We should make voting easier, safer in Virginia
By Ann Caddell Nelson
I appreciated last week’s letter by Max Hall, highlighting the achievements of the Virginia legislature and Gov. Northam, improving the absentee voting process by allowing “no excuse” voting, starting with the November elections. Other new laws broaden the timeframe for ballots to be completed, allow other forms of ID besides a valid driver’s license and make voting day a state holiday.
While this is all good, it isn’t enough. The requirement for a witness to authorize your signed ballot when submitting an absentee ballot by mail, was not changed. This requirement should be eliminated. According to FVAP.gov (Federal Voting Assistance Program) only four states require witnesses or a notary for absentee ballot submission: Virginia, Alabama, Alaska and Wisconsin.
You might think, what’s the big deal? You can get a family member or neighbor or friend or your mailman to witness your ballot. I would remind all that we are being asked to continue social distancing during this pandemic and many of us live alone and remotely. Should we be forced to interact in close proximity to others, in order to exercise our constitutional right to vote?
What about voter fraud? I think the fact that 46 states in the U.S. don’t require witnesses is an indication that it is not a significant concern. In fact, voter fraud in general is highly unusual. As Tammy Patrick, a former election official in Arizona recently stated, “Government officials should resist the urge to write off a voting method [mail-in ballots] that can make voting more accessible (and in the current case, safer) for thousands of people because of a few isolated incidents . . . . If and when a bank gets robbed or a car gets stolen, we don't stop using banks or cars. We enforce the laws we have in place."
In addition, Virginia should adopt practices now being embraced in other states, such as: prepaid postage on mail ballots; providing an ample number of drop boxes for voters to return ballots in person; and counting ballots as long as they’re postmarked by Election Day. All or a combination of these measures would help make it even easier for Virginians to vote and ensure that all votes count.
While simplifying absentee voting is of vital concern, we should find ways to ensure all residents are properly registered to vote and, for those who prefer in-person voting, that they can do so safely. We must prepare now for safe polling places and protecting our poll workers with protective gear (masks, gloves, smocks).
Broad and safe access to voting is not a partisan issue and should not be turned into one. Whether you are an independent, Democrat or Republican, you should have the right to vote without fear for your health and wellbeing. I hope our elected and civic leaders will take the necessary steps now to ensure that we can.

One legal, identifiable, citizen = one vote, on election day.
End of discussion.

Jeffrey Folks, writing at AMERICANTHINKER.COM recently noted Nancy Pelosi has passed a fifth stimulus bill intended to keep the printing presses going in Washington. Having already approved trillions in COVID-19 aid, Pelosi now wants another $3 trillion. Pelosi said she was "thrilled" with the record-breaking HEROES Act, as she called it, with much of the spending directed at traditionally Democratic constituencies such as public-sector workers, teachers, students, and the poor. The bill contains student loan forgiveness, extension of unemployment benefits, and another $1,200 in stimulus money for individuals and up to $6,000 for households, including checks for illegal aliens. The bill also restores the State and Local Income Tax (SALT) deduction popular in blue states *** and promotes early voting and mail-in voting that favors Democrat candidates ***
One of the most insidious aspects of Pelosi's bill is that it would continue the distribution of funds to every American making less than $100,000. Most of those persons have already received a stimulus check of $1,200, in many cases on top of unemployment benefits and other support. Indefinite support is especially dangerous: workers can become accustomed to "free" income in a very short time. Once the cash spigot has been turned on, it will be difficult to turn it off.
That is just what the Democrats want. A guaranteed income would be popular among the poor, especially among those who have no intention of ever working, but printing another $3 trillion or more each month would soon undermine the value of that distribution, and it would come at the cost of anyone who holds cash or bonds. That includes trillions invested in retirement annuities, life insurance, and ordinary savings. The Democrats' program would create an inflationary crisis that would reduce the value of money, just as Lenin did in post-revolutionary Russia, in effect weakening the capitalist system and replacing it with dependence on government distributions.
I don't know whether Nancy Pelosi has read enough history to know what she is doing, but those who influence her certainly have, and they have taken their cue from Lenin. Even a politician as daft as Pelosi should realize that the printing of $6 trillion or more in fiscal stimulus will undermine the value of existing currency and investments. The federal reserve has expanded its balance sheet at the fastest rate in history, with expectations of it reaching $10 trillion by early 2021. We are already seeing the effects of this inflationary policy as prices of basic goods begin to spike and as shortages multiply. Grocery prices rose in April at the highest rate in 50 years, and there is no reason why this increase will not continue.
Mr. Folks notes this is what Democrats are praying for, just as Lenin wanted mass starvation. The perennial strategy of the left, outlined in Alinsky's Rules for Radicals, is to foment a crisis and force government action as the "solution." Pelosi, who stockpiles $13-a-pint ice cream in her $24,000 fridge, appears to share Lenin's contempt for ordinary people. Hunger and shortages are mounting, and Democrats are eager to take advantage of the crisis. Even as the masses were starving, Lenin and his cronies were eating well.

We need to re-examine and learn from the facts surrounding the 1968 Hong Kong Flu worldwide pandemic, which killed more than 100,000 Americans that year- yet we did not shut down our American nation and destroy our liberty and economy in the process.
Today's Leftist Platform:
Dems want to ConquerDC and DestroyUSA, PERIOD. Now try to get your honest votes counted here in Virginia this Election Day 2020. Good luck with that, Sir.

Absentee balloting and voting has nothing to do with getting rid of Conservatives. It is to keep everyone safe, including you Gonearethedays, from contracting a virulent virus that we do not have a cure for yet. Would I like to see a cure by November? Yes, yes, and YES! Do I think it's going to happen? NO.
"A Government, which acts like or takes the character in the spirit of laws to take the shape of a ruler of the free people it is supposed to be subordinate to, is in fact a tyrant and not a servant." You said it, I didn't.
Yet, what do you call what we have right NOW if not a ruler who is acting like a TYRANT and a wannabe King (or Mafia Mob Boss)? Your pick, all shoes fit.

My fellow Fauquier citizens who are paying close attention to the current change in Virginia's voting laws at the hands of a lawless Governor and Democrat-majority House of Delegates are horrified to watch the Democrat Regime making it impossible for Constitution conservative candidates to win state-wide office in the next election and all others to follow if their lawlessness is allowed to continue. Because of these and other direct assaults on the rights of lawful Virginia Citizens, I urge everyone concerned to follow the recent highly successful example of the Second Amendment Sanctuary Ordinance movement across the overwhelming majority of Virginia counties, towns and jurisdictions via the current Meetings of the Virginia Congress of Counties in all matters, including the Declaration of Dissolution in the Virginia Congress of Counties. We urge all Virginia Patriots to undertake this process to restore our traditional liberty and constitutional government under a new, eighth Virginia Constitution:
(Excerpt text from, "IN THE VIRGINIA CONGRESS OF COUNTIES, 2020")
The Virginia Government, has made an unequitable political field for good Virginians, who want to run for a public office, by placing arbitrary regulations in front of individuals and rather support large political parties, who have no vested interest in their community, but rather are only interested in their party platform first and their constituency second.
The Virginia Government, has allowed the two main political parties, to commit election fraud, voter fraud, election outcome engineering and make fraudulent campaign claims, which are verified and ignored by the Committee of Privileges and Elections, the Governor(s) and the Judicial system.
The Virginia Government, has created laws that ensure election fraud and protect the political parties from accountability in all matters except for the handling of campaign funds, with no regard to the destruction of the integrity of the Virginia election system and protecting them from investigation of guilt of malice or maladministration.
The Virginia Government, and the Attorney General of Virginia, have broken their oaths to protect the Virginia Constitution, by refusing to protect the integrity of the people’s will of the amendments by the people to the Virginia Constitution.
The Virginia Government, in all branches, elected and appointed, in any of the multitude of past examples of the past two decades, are guilty of breaking the Virginia Constitution, Article 2, Section 7, in regards to creating illegal laws or policies usurping the power of culture, religion, freedom of speech, right to bear arms, right to personal property, being declared guilty by a secret court proceeding without being able to face their accuser, having homes entered without a proper warrant, not respecting any of the agreed and long standing prohibitions on all government in regards to the rights of the people as demanded by the United States Constitution and have conducted themselves with the utmost arrogance and disregard for the people’s existence as the people are the masters of their Government and their own destinies.
A Government, which acts like or takes the character in the spirit of laws to take the shape of a ruler of the free people it is supposed to be subordinate to, is in fact a tyrant and not a servant.

"The evidence is clear. Voter fraud is an minuscule problem in the United States. One comprehensive study found 31 cases of voter fraud of more than 1 billion ballots cast from 2000 to 2014, a rate of 0.0000031 percent of all votes."
"Republicans who care about the republic must act now: They need to call out the president when he spreads lies and stokes fears about voter fraud that are rooted only in conservative mythology. Otherwise, we can pretend to be shocked, but nobody should be surprised if Trump tries to discredit the 2020 election — no matter the consequences — if he loses."

Gonearethedays - "....we all know the local Democrat Machine controls all of our local polling establishments, runs our local elections, and even controls our local Board of Elections, voter registrations, etc."
If what you are insinuating were true, then why does this county come through with a MAJORITY of Republicans winning the seats available time and time again? You said, "This has been going on for a long, long time." Really, how did you come to that conclusion, and why haven't the Democrats been winning if the cheating has been happening for a long, long time? You are talking out of your hat!

You make so many assumptions about telling a book by its cover. And, the election officer issue - voters with mismatched information are still told to vote - they are given a provisional ballot and there are rules the voter has to follow up on after casting a provisional ballot. That includes Republicans, Democrats, any voter. Fauqier County is known for its good election officers. But, if you think they need improvement, I suggest you volunteer and become an election official!! Free training, requires tons of personal time and effort for a mere, tiny paycheck (taxable income). Fix the system if you think it's broken. And, take the training to be allowed to get people to register to vote then get out there are get people to register. Again, quit your griping and fix things you don't like. It's free but takes a commitment from you.

Mr. Bentley, we all know the local Democrat Machine controls all of our local polling establishments, runs our local elections, and even controls our local Board of Elections, voter registrations, etc. This has been going on for a long, long time. Just before the last Presidential Election in 2016, I observed from a distance the Thinly-Disguised Democrat "Registrar" Table out in front of the Old Warrenton Post Office on a Saturday morning. I noticed when I walked by the woman didn't bother to ask me if I was registered to vote or wanted to register to vote. I walked on by after visiting the Post Office to drop off some mail. However, I was a bit more curious. Sure enough, the Democrat Registrar addressed and stopped a number of people "who didn't look like me," to inquire about their voter registration. When I drove back down Main Street a short time later, I also noticed this same "Registrar" was putting her registration boxes and materials back into her little SUV hatchback. The SUV had a proud "Hillary" bumper sticker on the rear bumper. That's all I needed to confirm my prior suspicion.
Meanwhile, at 5:45 AM the morning of the November, 2018 local, State and national congressional Election Day, my wife and I were standing just outside the open door at our very large Fauquier County precinct location waiting at the front of the line for the voting to begin, when I began observing and very carefully listening to the local subject precinct Election Officer, ten feet away, speaking to her team in front of the open door just prior to letting us in to vote. In her final instructions to her precinct team of election officials gathered and present, she clearly stated, "If the address provided (by the Voter) does not match the voter registration roll, do not challenge them- let them go ahead and vote. We don't want to offend anyone." There was no mention of asking the Voter with the mismatched Personally Identifying Information to step aside, or to be sent over to be queried by the Election Officer to perform further due diligence investigation, etc. There were no other provisions or other special instructions mentioned for mismatched voter registration data given to the election officials. My wife was also present by the doorway and could easily see and hear the Election Officials remarks. We immediately remarked to each other (and within earshot of others) at the head of the voter line awaiting entry that this incident should be reported. However, being unsure of Virginia election laws, I did not choose to confront the Election Officer when entering the doorway to vote at 6 AM that morning.
While this kind of response may be keeping in the spirit of the current election law in Virginia (which it is my understanding allows a registered voter who has moved or otherwise relocated during the past 12 months to return to their prior precinct of record to vote), it appeared to me the strict interpretation of this Virginia Board of Elections guidance was left to a dangerously lax and wide discretion by this Election Official, in fact, allowing anyone **without** a current, pre-registered address during the past year, to vote at that precinct without any challenge or additional investigation or questioning or cross-checking. This would appear to enable significant voter fraud not only at this precinct, but throughout the State of Virginia and Northern Virginia specifically, if this policy is being repeated everywhere with advance knowledge by nefarious persons, with opportunities for voting multiple times without challenge based on specific Personally Identifying Information research ahead of the election.
Regardless if this was an isolated incident with one precinct Election Officer; or if is in fact being repeated throughout Virginia, this official and this kind of activity and instructions should be investigated by the appropriate authorities to prevent cases of voter fraud. Our sworn affidavits were submitted immediately to our local and State Republican Party officials- but no investigation ever was performed, so I have zero confidence in my local Fauquier Democrat-oontrolled Election Board, much less any faith in the Republican Party here in Fauquier County and Virginia to want to get to the bottom of this kind of direct evidence of a massive voter fraud campaign being conducted.
I don't believe- much less trust- the lies being promoted by this opinion writer; and by your own comments we shall know you.
Tony Bentley · May 8, 2020 at 11:13 am
I'd stand in line any time (fully protected) if that were my only choice and chance to vote Republicans out of office.

Fellow Constitution Conservatives, Big Government Republican Establishment supporters, and other more Traditional Americans, you may wish to sue in the Courts and appeal to the Supreme Court, ad infinitum, but sadly, you are not going to get a peaceful revolution in this country against the current tyranny. Face reality and prepare for another American secession at the national, State and local levels (call it what you will- another War to Prevent Southern Independence, War Between the States, or worse- a true civil war where two or more sides are actually fighting over control of the national Government- the opposite of the Second American Secession of 1860-65). Sadly, Violent Revolution is an article of faith for the Left. Just look at the comments below for a inkling of what's to come from some of our neighbors below.
Both Lenin and Mao happily started civil wars in Russia and China because they were Committed Marxists.
The Communist Left has been fighting a civil war for over a century across our American continent with the goal of imposing a Leninist tyranny.
Now fellow Traditional Americans, get your heads in the game.

In Virginia you have to provide a social security number to register to vote, which means you can't register twice, and then when you do vote, they cross your name off their list of registered voters, so you can't vote twice.
Jeffersonian American's claims that democrats are passing laws to enact "massive election fraud" in Virginia is nonsense. Just on the face of it, any law allowing for more lax verification of voters would also obviously apply to republicans, and if all it took to vote multiple times was to wear a fake mustache, you can bet they'd have hair and makeup trailers in the parking lot. Then there's the problem of the "evidence" itself not supporting the claim.
HB 25 would simply allow people to vote absentee for any reason, ".. in any election in which he is qualified to vote," "qualified" being the relevant word. HB 1 and 18 do basically the same.
HB 14 is a voter referendum that if passed would allow changes to election district boundaries, "provided that the adjustment's sole purpose is to align legislative election district boundaries with the boundaries of voting precincts established in counties and cities."
HB 19 would eliminate the photo ID requirement alone, and go back to the way it was about 10 years ago when all you needed was your voter registration card or certain other official ID... and they'd cross your name off their list so you couldn't vote twice. Or, "A voter who does not show one of the required forms of identification and does not complete or sign the statement shall be offered a provisional ballot according to the provisions of current law"... and they'd presumably cross your name off their list so you couldn't vote twice. Falsely signing would be a Class 5 felony.
HB 26 would allow a person to register 13 days before an election instead of 21 days. In case it's not clear, that would apply to republicans too.
HB 108 "Designates Election Day, the Tuesday after the first Monday in November, as a state holiday and removes Lee-Jackson Day as a state holiday." This is massive election fraud?
Looking at a few of his other links you see they don't support his assertion that democrats are trying to, "promote massive election fraud and disenfranchisement of law-abiding Virginia citizens." The rest seem to be unrelated bills, but I'm not about to spend any more time sifting through them after finding out the others are bull. If someone presents a pile of purported evidence, and it turns out not to support the claim in any way, it's reasonable to disregard any other claims they make in the future, until proven otherwise.

These are some of what will have to happen since our debt has skyrocketed. Let's claw back that tax cut for corporations first. That was such a big mistake by the Republicans, the corporations didn't raise employees wages or benefits, they put it into their own pockets. Surprise, surprise folks!
"The United States has been able to run up more debt than economists once thought possible without forcing interest rates or inflation higher. But tough choices were always inevitable, and they’re now likely to arrive within the next 5 years. It doesn’t make sense to raise taxes in a severe recession, but it may be necessary when the economy is back on track in a year or two or three.
Medicare, the health insurance program for seniors, could run short of money in 2023 or sooner, as the payroll taxes that finance the program plunge amid record unemployment. The whole program wouldn’t go bust, but it would pay only a portion of the cost for services. Social Security could run short of money by 2028, for the same reason, with the smaller disability insurance program running short by 2024.
Congress could shore up both programs by hiking the payroll taxes that finance them. But bigger changes may be brewing as policymakers contemplate additional stimulus that could be needed in coming years to keep consumers and businesses afloat, and the eventual need to repay at least some of the new debt Uncle Sam is taking on. Here are some options:
Repeal the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. This was a landmark tax cut for Republicans who ran Congress at the time, and it would probably take Democratic majorities in both houses, along with a Democratic president, to repeal the whole law or even part of it. If the corporate rate went back to 35% from the current 21%, and tax rates rose for most Americans who got a tax cut under the law, it would only raise about $1.5 trillion, which is $1 trillion less than the increase in U.S. debt in the last two months alone.
A value-added tax. This may be the most efficient way to raise a lot of money quickly. Most advanced nations have a VAT, which is like a national sales tax imposed at various points in the production of goods and services. A 10% VAT would raise around $1 trillion per year, and Congress could design it with protections for lower-income Americans, small businesses and other vulnerable groups. Former Democratic presidential candidate Andrew Yang proposed a 10% VAT as a way to pay for $1,200 monthly “freedom dividends” to every adult American.
A wealth tax. Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren have both proposed annual taxes on the wealth of rich people who earn most of their money from investments taxed at a lower rate than ordinary labor. Both dropped out of the Democratic presidential race as the more moderate Joe Biden became the front-runner, suggesting these tax-the-rich plans didn’t have wide appeal. But that could change. “What was considered a fringe idea of the far political left now may attract more attention from mainstream policymakers,” writes Gleckman.
Higher inheritance taxes. The average federal tax on estates big enough to face taxation is just 2.1%, and loopholes provide many ways to lower that. The Brookings Institution’s Hamilton Project proposes taxing inherited wealth at the same rate as labor income, with an exemption threshold of $1 million or more that would exclude most families. With the top income tax rate at 37%, an inheritance tax at that level would raise around $92 billion per year."

And, for all you ignorant Republican rednecks a *mandate* has nothing to do with two queers it simply means authority given by the majority (which can sometimes seem tyrannical). Donkey. You are a fool.

What do you Democrats have to say about all the creepy behavior by Joe? Smelling childrens hair. Massaging womens shoulders... And grabbing one by the pu$$y? You going to march against Joe?
