Webb addresses broadband needs in rural Virginia

Cameron Webb, the Democratic candidate in Virginia 5th Congressional District, which includes most of Fauquier.
By Miriam Anver
Rectortown

Fauquier County has lacked widespread and consistent access to broadband for years, a problem also faced by other rural Virginia counties. But, once the COVID-19 pandemic struck, our situation became critical.

Schools were closed, and many students were unable to participate in remote learning. Doctors’ offices were closed, and patients often were unable to use telemedicine. Businesses large and small were affected because their employees had problems connecting remotely. And many of us in semi-isolation did not have bandwidth for closer communication with friends through Zoom or other platforms.

Dr. Cameron Webb understands that rural broadband access is critical to both the 5th District of Virginia and across the country. His opponent, Bob Good, on the other hand, has zero mention of broadband on his website or apparently, elsewhere.

We need Dr. Webb in Congress to work for a solution for expanded broadband through the FCC Connect America Fund and USDA’s ReConnect Program. Please, elect him to represent us.

@badelectronics- I think you meant Democrats- party of death! Millions of fetuses aborted due to their state sanctioned genocide. They make Hitler look like Mother Teresa.
Jeffersonian American · October 19, 2020 at 12:19 am
Oh, so your Democrat Candidate voted to remove School Resource Officers from Charlottesville Public Schools- that makes him tough on Law and Order, right? And this makes him SENSITIVE to the rights of would-be High School Thugs, MS-13 Gang Members and Mass Murdering School Shooters, Right? And his father still supports him, eh?

Sure- sure- by his actions we shall know him, wrapping himself in the banner of the Democrat National Party of Committed Marxist-Communists. What kinds of alleged "doctors" do we have in Virginia anyway- from Governor Klansman (or was it Governor Blackface) on down the ballots across Virginia to "Dr. Webb?"

whew, close call there falconDad .. if Webb took the bar & passed SFC19 would blame him for the nation's legal system, too ..

VOTE WEBB .. the far right deserves it for what they did to Riggleman .. it's Webb +3 at last poll .. Denver wouldve held the seat but the extremists wanted to roll the dice .. now theres a Liberty scandal that snares NO GOOD and he 'forgot' to tell the truth about his investments, just like he 'forgot' to file his election papers on time VOTE WEBB
FalconDad · October 17, 2020 at 1:39 pm
The news keeps calling Webb a lawyer too. He does have a law degree, but until he passes the Virginia Bar exam, he’s not considered a lawyer in Virginia and cannot practice law here.
Sammy · October 17, 2020 at 12:43 pm
false pat falsely claims here that Webb favors defunding police ...

oh yeah?

tell it to Webb's father, who endorses Webb as a law enforcement officer himself

or the sheriff of Campbell County, later Fluvanna County, who endorses Webb over Good after 30+ yrs of virginia law enforcement experience

Or ask Campbell County, where supervisor Good repeatedly voted to cut law enforcement to the point where 13 deputies resigned ... the sheriff at that time now endorses Webb

ignore the desperate tone of republicans on the edge of discovering they lost VA5 by their own devices in knee-capping incumbent denver riggleman -- he would've kept the district red

“I was Campbell County Sheriff for twenty years."

“Fluvanna County Sheriff for fourteen years."

“Working in law enforcement, I know Dr. Cameron Webb is a leader who wants to keep us safe."

“In Congress, he’ll work with law enforcement and get us what we need to stop violent crime."

“He learned from his dad who trained officers at the DEA."

“These attacks against Doctor Webb are just lies and dirty politics."
Sammy · October 16, 2020 at 9:07 am
sfc19 -- save the county last year -- "logic": Webb is a doctor, therefore responsible for the ills of the entire health care system .. got it, as tortured as the logic presents itself

his opponent, on the other hand, comes from liberty university .. does that make Bob Good responsible for the scandal and financial troubles there?

sure, by whatever logic holds webb responsible for the entire us health care system and every nurse who didn't hop to it when a patient hit a buzzer

between sfc19 and JA, you've got a pair of endorsements from the feeble-minded who typify those who knee-capped denver riggleman

you dont need my professional camera to get the full picture -- VOTE WEBB

Vote Republican! The party of DEATH!!!
farmbum · October 16, 2020 at 7:15 am
Vote all Republican fascists' out. Obviously they cannot handle name calling like JA states, how can they possible govern or serve?

Mr. Good has done nothing for his constitutes. He only gets mentioned in the news when he gripes about what people have to say about him.

His time has past.

This is why we love our President and Congressional Candidate Bob Good:

The Undocumented, Committed Marxist DEMOCRAT Barack Hussein Obama Barry Soetoro called me a "Bitter Clinger..."

The Vile, Crooked, Stenching DEMOCRAT Hillary Clinton called me an "Irredeemable Deplorable..."

Biden Family Crime Syndicate Chairman DEMOCRAT China Joe Biden called me a "Person Full of White Guilt..." while telling all my black American friends, "You ain't Black..."

The Truly Nasty, Vile, Corrupt DEMOCRAT Nancy Pelosi called me an "Enemy of the State..."

President Trump calls me an "American." Guess who I'm voting for on November 3rd?

Congressional Candidate Bob Good stood with the citizens of Fauquier County to protect and defend our Second Amendment Rights when forcing our local timid and skittish politicians to take official action. He will support President Trump's efforts to rid ourselves of decades of disastrous DEMOCRAT Policies along with the corrupt massive Government Deep State subverting our liberties and U.S. Constitution.

And you want me to support another smiling, gentle looking Radical Marxist DEMOCRAT Congressional Candidate CAMERON WEBB who has already kicked law enforcement (School Resource Officers) out of the Charlottesville Public Schools and who has vowed to DEFUND THE POLICE? Simply put: No Way In Hades would I ever vote for such a DEMOCRAT who clearly aligns with the Bolshevik Left.

As to Discredited DEMOCRAT Media News Propagandist Keith Olbermann, he not only called us names, he said we (Trump supporters) must be "removed from society..." Sounds like he is going with the usual GULAGS and mass-murder approach, which Bolsheviks like him have used before.

My fellow Fauquier Citizens and fellow Americans- it's important to remember the members of this DEMOCRAT Ethnic Cult do not consider us to be "human beings," but rather, just animals to be used and/or slaughtered as they see fit.

The bloody, violent, horrific legacy of Marxist-Communist Doctrines now being embraced by ALL DEMOCRAT ALIGNED CANDIDATES AND INCUMBENTS are found throughout much of our recent world history- Learn It. You cannot cannot claim you are someone else when you embrace the 2020 DEMOCRAT PARTY PLATFORM running under that Marxist-Communist umbrella.

Any physician who runs for political office consider the mess they have permitted within the nation's hospitals. Webb is part of the failures occurring caring for patients. Per John's Hopkins study 2016, 5000 deaths a week in our nation's hospital due to neglience and medical errors. If Webb hasn't stopped the cheapening of care by CEOs, don't think this guy who is associate with UVA, a 2 star rated hospital can politically lead us into anything other than failing us. Ask yourself why community doctors were yanked from visiting their own patients in hospitals???? Go ahead, ask. The consistency of knowing you went out the window when your home town doctor was replaced by hospital hired hospitalists who are over worked and do not advocate for you cause their pay checks come from their low rated hospitals. Our American culture professed interdisciplinary approach and your voice should be part of the team process. Hospitalists have no voice as they are pushed to cheapen care. Doctors such as Webb and Northam have been trained with the pharmeutical giants who fund medical schools. A Vote for Webb supports a failing heakth care system who no longer answers call bells. Tell Webb his medical degree is worthless when he has been part of a system that does harm. He is a Hippocratic nightmare.

Dr. Webb is clearly the best choice for the voters in the 5th District.
Sammy · October 15, 2020 at 12:37 pm
click the link and discover that Good's policy on broadband is STAY THE COURSE, keep govt out, nothing new at a time when even POTUS is advancing the idea of the DOD NATIONALIZING 5G .. VOTE WEBB .. govt pushed electricity and telephones to rural america, now it must step in for broadband, and we know it in this county .. broadband stimulates free enterprise however deployed .. right now we want it in the very worst way and that is just how we get broadband here

JA is neither Jeffersonian nor American, we need action not JA's BS
Jeffersonian American · October 15, 2020 at 7:30 am
The author of this OP-ED obviously didn't research Republican Candidate Bob Good's web site- here is the link to his rural broadband policy page:

https://www.bobgoodforcongress.com/rural-broadband-policy/

Unfortunately, Dr. Cameron Webb is a DEMOCRAT who freely choose to align himself with a truly horrific and awful national party that has been hijacked by Committed Marxists- so I don't care how many nice, smiling mugshots he has- his ideology is a growing cancer across our American continent- absolutely by his actions, we already know what is in the heart of Cameron Webb- and his vision for America is too horrible to contemplate. You can't expect freedom-loving, constitutional law and order loving Virginians to ever vote for a Democrat Party Candidate in 2020. It is a vote for Virginia and national suicide.
martinkus · October 14, 2020 at 8:36 pm
Can someone please define "biblical conservative"? Candidate Good says he is one. Scares the BeJesus out of me!
JustCurious · October 14, 2020 at 2:24 pm
The discussion about internet options is interesting and timely and valid - but, the original question is NOT about 'net options. The original question involves Anver's claim that Good has "zero mention of broadband on his website" while the first comment indicated that claim is false.

Which is correct? That is the primary question here.

Webb is for defunding our law enforcement according to his ads...
brandonj · October 14, 2020 at 7:47 am
I haven't looked much into this, but why doesn't NOVEC provide broadband via fiber on their existing utility network? Seems like a no-brainer to me and relatively straightforward to implement.
Bin Bin · October 14, 2020 at 5:12 am
Businesses large and small were affected because their employees had problems connecting remotely. And many of us in semi-isolation did not have bandwidth for closer communication with friends through Zoom or other platforms. I think you're right to say that. Your sharing is great find a word
Silii · October 13, 2020 at 8:27 pm
Our current president doesn't use free market solutions and a lot of you seen to revere and worship him. We also know that free market solutions in the US is just a of talk.
Demosthenes · October 13, 2020 at 7:57 pm
A couple things...

First, Goodwin, our national debt has ballooned in the last four years even though we were in an economic boom! What kind of a president runs trillion dollar deficits when times are good?! I thought that guy was supposed to be some kind of brilliant business mind, but apparently all he knows is how to run things into the ground.

Sorry, off track.

When it comes to the internet, generally I would agree with those who are saying that we need a new form of rural electrification or other types of government programs that brought utilities to rural areas.

BUT we are on the verge of a very new type of internet from private development. If you aren't familiar yet with Elon Musk's Starlink, look it up. That system is a few months or maybe a year away from bringing a new form of internet to most of the planet. No wires needed. If I were a politician right now I would not promise to spend money on wires that are about to be obsolete in many areas.
jim goodwin · October 13, 2020 at 4:58 pm
You know what kind of compromise I might even go for? Let government build towers. Rent space on those towers to cellular phone carriers and internet broadband providers. Use the rent monies for maintenance and whatever is left over, pay land owners for the inconvenience of having their property values lowered because of the ugly towers.

Let's not forget that if government "owns" the infrastructure now, a future government will eventually abuse that ownership. Owning the towers is one thing. Owning the communications equipment is quite another.
jim goodwin · October 13, 2020 at 4:01 pm
Nothing the government does is "affordable". We are currently $27 trillion in debt. Those of us who are frugal with our money are obligated to carry all those that aren't. Webb will expand government even further than our current idiot POTUS allowed. We do not need YET ANOTHER GOVERNMENT BUREAUCRACY to deal with rural internet.

I currently use Blaze Broadband. This small company wasn't subsidized by the government, that I know of. The technology is A solution. There are probably others. Are they "affordable?" Not for everyone.

I think what Webb is going to push for is "free internet for all." I say NO! If you want to talk about a program that provides a stipend for lower income families to pay for broadband access, fine. That's cheaper than having a soup-to-nuts program that provides monopoly power to one infrastructure provider and/or allows TOO MUCH GOVERNMENT CONTROL.

kkadilak@msn.com · October 13, 2020 at 3:39 pm
Quite frankly, Jim, "free market solutions," tend to be more expensive and less consistent. Have you asked yourself why in all this time, the "free market" hasn't managed to provide our rural communities with broadband access? The government, on the other hand, has the resources to make it happen in an affordable way. We see this with the USDA's former Rural Electrification Administration during the 20th century. This is how communities throughout our country received access to electricity and it provides a model for how USDA's ReConnect Program can work for us now,.
jim goodwin · October 13, 2020 at 12:28 pm
"His opponent, Bob Good, on the other hand, has zero mention of broadband on his website or apparently, elsewhere."

BLANTANT LIE or the author didn't look very hard. I found this in under 12 seconds:

https://www.bobgoodforcongress.com/rural-broadband-policy/

Neither plan contains details, but at least Bob Good wants to make it easier for free-market solutions to solve the problems rather than BIG GOVERNMENT.
