When captains jump ship, who does people’s work?

With the passing of Memorial Day, there are increasing signs that our long national nightmare may be ending. A large number of states are starting to re-open their economies and allow their citizens to attend church, get a haircut, dine al fresco and sunbathe on a public beach.

During even the darkest days, there were several groups of Americans who risked their own personal safety by staying on the job. These are our magnificent health care workers, firemen and law enforcement professionals. It pains me to say that one essential group of workers have been largely AWOL. I am talking about the House of Representatives.

On March 10, 2020, Speaker Nancy Pelosi told the world that, “We are the Captains of the Ship. We are the last to leave.” Since that bold statement, the People’s House has spent only seven days voting on legislation critical to this nation. Seven days. The rest of the time, members have spent in their home districts collecting $172,000.

The word Congress literally means the act of coming together and meeting. Article 1, Section 5 of our Constitution stipulates: “A majority of each House shall constitute a quorum.” For 230 years, this has meant members traveling to our nation’s Capitol and physically casting votes on behalf of those who elected them.

We did not shut down the Congress when the British burned the Capitol in 1812, when Confederate soldiers threatened to attack the city, the 1918 pandemic or during the darkest days of the Second World War.

With this history in mind, I was shocked and disappointed when the Democrat majority decided on May 15 to radically change the rules of the House. By a partisan vote — with no Republican support — Democrats voted to allow proxy voting in the House of Representatives for the first time.

As someone who worked in the House of Representatives when proxy voting was permitted in committees, I am disgusted by this ugly power grab. I was there when committee chairmen and ranking minority members routinely abused this power and did not accurately reflect the views of the absent member. It was for this reason that committee proxy voting was abolished in 1995.

Under House Resolution 965, any member of Congress can now designate another member to vote for them. In addition, the resolution specifies that a designated member can vote up to 10 different proxies to constitute a quorum and approve legislation. During votes last month, 71 Democrats decided they weren’t going to come to work. What this means is that 20 Democrats now control what happens in the House of Representatives.

With the passage of this resolution, the House became not the last but the first to abandon ship. More importantly, they also abandoned the United States Constitution and 230 years of tradition. If a member of Congress is afraid or unwilling to do their job, they should immediately resign. There are plenty of unemployed Americans who would love to make $172,000, have a taxpayer paid staff of 18 and millions of dollars of our tax money to operate their offices.

May 15 was a sad day in the People’s House.

Antifa is unrelated to the Democratic Party. Fundamentally, the Democratic party does not house leftist beliefs, and in fact in the past has taken steps to suppress leftists and protesters. It may seem convenient to tie BLM or Antifa groups to the Democratic party in order to connect these groups together in the pursuit of a larger conspiracy, but these simply are not the facts.

AP - These "protests" are not about black lives. BLM, Antifa, and the like are just the latest name for radical leftists. This same type were called Occupy Wall Street 10 years ago, and far back in the 60's they were the Weather Underground and Black Panthers. Normal Americans can see right through it.

7 legislative days divided into 415 = 59! 35 legislative days divided into 131 = a little less than 4. the House, led by Captain Madam Pelosi, by my count, is 15 times more productive per legislative day than the republican Senate.

there are 11,287 introduced bills in the 116th Congress so far. 415 bills have passed in the House and neen sent to the Senate. 131 bills have passed in the Senate and have been sent to the House. to date, 536 bills have been agreed to by simple resolution in both chambers. *the third* makes it look like the House, led by a real Captain, God-Bless-Soul Madam Pelosi, has been mailing it in. that's just not the case. in fact, a case of the same depth he provided could be made that the republican Senators are the slackers. just saying....

Just to clarify the record. For the same period of time, the U.S. Senate has met 35 legislative days. By my count that is 5 times as many as the House and there is no proxy voting in that chamber!

Here is the republican controlled Senate's schedule for this year. State Work Period means WORKING FROM HOME! Doesn't look like the republican senate controlled by "ditch the mitch" is working any harder than the Honorable Pelosi's House. and, whats more? those old codgers get paid the same as members of the House.

If grocery store workers can go to work, Congress certainly should.

Nancy has done NOTHING since she became speaker. Nancy was busy her first year looking for a way to remove a duly elected president, culminating with impeaching our president for what Joe Biden did. Then with her delay on sending the Articles of Impeachment to the Senate, she forced the entire government to entertain her nonsense while the Wuhan Virus was making its way here.

Nancy Pelosi is probably responsible for more deaths than Andrew Cuomo.

Now Nancy Pelosi wont come to work. And their candidate for President has been hiding in his basement.

What a mess the Democrat party has become. They have put so much energy into trying to remove Trump from office that they no longer even know HOW to win a fair election.
