Local Wreaths for Veterans effort seeks financial help

Wreaths for Fauquier Veterans, which started in 2018, will decorate graves on Saturday, Dec. 18.
Wreaths for Fauquier Veterans seeks donations to help it mark graves in local cemeteries this Christmas.

Volunteers on Saturday, Dec. 18, will decorate 375 military veterans’ graves in Southern Fauquier cemeteries.

Remington’s Harold Davis American Legion Post 247, local Boy Scouts and Remington/ Bealeton Ruritan will lead the fourth annual campaign.

But, the number of requests for wreaths has more than doubled. The event originated through the efforts of the M.M. Pierce Elementary School Patriot Club in 2018. Club fundraisers, faculty donations and contributions from the community and local civic organizations paid for the wreaths. While no longer affiliated with M.M. Pierce Elementary, local volunteers continue to plan the event.

“The Warrenton Home Depot has been very supportive of the initiative, offering wreaths at wholesale cost,” said Corinna Crofford, one of the organizers. “Due to increased labor costs and supply and delivery issues, the cost of the wreaths has increased significantly. At this time, this year’s event faces a funding shortfall due to the combination of price increases and requests for wreaths.

“Organizers are hopeful that the community will come together to support this tribute to our local veterans.”

Donations may be sent to: Bealeton-Remington Ruritans Club, Attn: Wreaths for Fauquier Veterans, P.O. Box 30, Bealeton, Va. 22712
