A local nonprofit is looking for applicants across the public and private sector to take part in their leadership and professional development training program.

The Leadership Fauquier nonprofit announced last week it is accepting applicants for its 10 month training program. The program is designed to help participants learn specific leadership skills and expand their awareness of challenges facing the local community as well as form connections to people and resources within Fauquier.

“The ... program is a one-of-a-kind opportunity that broadens the participants’ understanding of what makes Fauquier County such a unique and wonderful community to live and work in,” said Deanna Hammer, executive director of Leadership Fauquier.

Applications will be accepted through July 15, and the new class will be announced Aug. 1. Classes will start in September with a two-day retreat and continue with a one-day-a-month program from October to May.

In addition to the program days, homework assignments will need to be completed prior to each session. There will also be a class project that will be completed outside of class time as well.

Participants explore all aspects of a community capital model as it pertains to Fauquier County while focusing on the areas of politics and government, education, health and human services, planning and development, social, nonprofits, recreation and culture, environment, natural resources and public safety, according to the news release.

After graduation, the participants in each class are encouraged to join the member association for further networking, educational opportunities and volunteer opportunities.

Leadership Fauquier is open to those who currently live or work in Fauquier County and have done so for at least one year. Participants are selected from government, business, nonprofit, public service sectors and the community at large.

More detailed information and applications are available on Fauquier Leadership’s website at LeadershipFauquier.org.
