Earl Kocher, 82, Warrenton, departed this life Friday, August 27, 2021, having fulfilled many goals that he had set for himself.
Born April 23, 1938, in Sedan, Kansas, a farming community, he achieved a doctorate in education and computer science.
After serving in the Army, he taught both high school and college classes. He was blessed with three children, whom he adored, and three stepchildren, whom he helped raise. He was able to travel in this country and abroad and, in his free time, planted an acre of gardens, particularly roses. In addition, he built a mountain cabin at 3,000 feet, hauling every piece of material over the Blue Ridge.
One of his greatest enjoyments was the business he helped start, Mountain Memory Walks, in which he and his wife, Lucy, led people on walks in Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia, South Carolina and across England. He was talented with tools and able to fix nearly anything.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Lucy Reed Morison; his son, David Kocher; his daughters, Kellie Hayes and Cathy Miller, and three granddaughters, Hailee, Sara and Charlotte. His stepchildren include sons Southgate and Dulany and daughter Hatley Morison, and two grandchildren, Reed and Mia Morison. He also leaves his brother, Jerry Kocher of Dallas, Texas.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Fauquier SPCA.
