Floyd Dallas Burke, 61, of Lois, S.C., died surrounded by his family at his home on Thursday, February 4, 2021, after losing his battle to cancer.
He was born April 14, 1959, in Winchester.
He graduated in 1977 from Brentsville District High School in Nokesville. Floyd was avid hunter and fisherman, with a love for antique cars. He could also often be found tinkering with a car, gardening or helping a neighbor or friend. Floyd retired from Prince William County Public Works in 2014 after more than 30 years. After retirement he moved to Loris, S.C., but nothing could keep him still, and he started working again at Carolina Shores Public Works in North Carolina.
Floyd is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Cheryl Burke of Loris, S.C.; three daughters, Glinda Gillespie and her husband Jason of Culpeper, Angela Fowler and her husband Ronney of Warrenton and Hollie Burke of Warrenton; six grandchildren, Miranda, Katlynn, Nicole, Taylor, Shelby and Jackson; a great-grandson, Lane, and numerous friends and family in both Virginia and South Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and June Burke, as well as three brothers, Lonnie, Vick and Tim.
A visitation is scheduled for 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, February 14, at Liberty Community Church at 11775 Morgansburg Road, Bealeton. The funeral will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, February 15, at the church with Wesley Shortridge officiating. Interment will follow at Greenwich Presbyterian Church, 15305 Vint Hill Road, Nokesville. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Floyd’s life; we just ask that you please follow all Covid-19 regulations.
