Gerald Albert Billingsley, 73, of Remington, passed away January 24, 2021, at Fauquier Hospital in Warrenton.
Gerald, who preferred “Jerry,” was born April 29, 1947, in Washington, D.C., to the late Raymond A. Billingsley and Annabelle Billingsley.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Kay “Katie
Elizabeth Billingsley.
He was the loving father of three children, Matthew A. T. Billingsley and wife Megan) of Remington, Blythe E. A. Drewer of Baltimore and Sarah E. T. Billingsley, of Remington, and the loving grandfather of Shea E. Drewer. He is survived by his sister, Mary Leah Bruno and husband Alfie of Silver Spring, Md., and his nephew, Christopher J. Bruno of Silver Spring.
Raised in Falls Church, Jerry graduated as valedictorian of his class at George C. Marshall High School. He graduated from Wesleyan University in Middletown, Conn., where he majored in Ancient Oriental History and Religion and the Japanese language. While serving in the United States Army, he met his wife, Katie, and they were married in 1971. They moved to Mclean and eventually to Remington.
He taught at Joyce Kilmer Middle School in Vienna for more than 40 years, taught Aikido for the Virginia Ki Society in Merrifield, for more than 30 years, and served as the mayor of Remington for more than 30 years.
A memorial service will be forthcoming, and details will be provided by the surviving family as plans are set.
