Geraldine Rae “Gerri” Lough, 86, of Culpeper, passed away Sunday, April 25, 2021.
Gerri was born in Hammond, Indiana, on May 18,1934, to the late, Julius and Helen (Cserpes) Vajda.
She was raised with her six siblings in a loving Catholic Hungarian home. Her father and her mother's mother were immigrants from Hungary. The old country was a huge part of her life.
As a young child Gerri and her family moved to Maryland. She graduated from Suitland High School. She eventually moved to Virginia and started her family.
She raised two sons, Kevin and William, and a daughter, Samantha.
Gerri loved to be outside and had a passion for gardening. She always sewed and crocheted, teaching the skill to many of the children in the neighborhood. For many years she professionally decorated cakes. In her free time, you could find her volunteering in many places such as the local elementary school and the rescue squad. Gerri was known as a mom to many and a nanny to even more.
Gerri worked at Peebles department store and Fauquier Hospital for 20-plus years.
She is survived by her children, William (Rebecca) Lough and Samantha (Eric) Anderson; five grandchildren, Jessica (Chris) Padgett, Erica (Kevin) Bradbury, Nicole (Josh) Wolfe, Dilan (Victoria) Najjar and Olivia Lough; seven great grandchildren, Anderson, Gabriel, David, Liam, Artemis, Josh, and Erin; her brother Jim (Lynn) Vajda and sister-in-law Tai Vajda, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Gerri was preceded in death by her son, Kevin ,and her siblings, Helen, Julius, Margaret, Rose and John.
The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 13, at Moser Funeral Home in Warrenton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 a.m. Friday, May 14, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Warrenton, followed by interment at Stonewall Memory Gardens near Manassas.
