Karen Montalent Caes, 75, of Warrenton, passed away peacefully at the Fauquier Hospital on August 27, 2019, her loving family by her side. She was a beautiful soul loved by all for her kindness and gracious heart.
Born in Paterson, New Jersey, on May 25, 1944, she was the second daughter of Nettie Marie Montalent and William Kingsley Rigg, both residing in Glen Rock, New Jersey, at the time.
Karen’s maternal grandfather, Petrus D. Montalent, originally resided in Lyons, France, but circa 1905 relocated to Paterson, New Jersey. Like his father and grandfather before him, he had been highly successful in the silk dyeing industry and wanted to assure his continued success.
At the time, Karen’s father was president of the Sherman Printing Co. in Passaic and planned to remain so until at least 1975. Karen, therefore, began her own career at the Fair Lawn, New Jersey offices of Paulist Press, where she eventually met her husband, Charles.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 51 years; by her daughter, Pamela Leake, husband Michael and granddaughter Caitlin; by her son, Stephen Caes, all of Warrenton, and by the extended families of her brother-in-law (Robert Cotter of Massachusetts), and sister-in-law (Connie Caes of New Jersey).
Karen was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Barbara Rigg Cotter.
Interment will take place at a private ceremony in Washington, Va.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Trinity Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 299, Washington, Va. 22747.
