Marvin Gene Leerar passed away peacefully on May 11, 2021, at his home in Warrenton at the age of 83.
Marvin was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Born April 27, 1938, he grew up on a farm in Britt, Iowa, the son of Bill and Ann Leerar.
After serving in the Air Force, he enjoyed a 35-year federal government career with the U.S. Information Agency in Washington, D.C. He traveled to over 140 countries in his career, but his favorite place was always the farmland of Iowa. He was an avid Cleveland Indians fan who devoured western novels and always had a bad joke to share, followed by groans and much laughter.
Marvin was predeceased by his parents and brother Raymond and survived by his brother Roger and sister Kathy Crotty.
Marvin will be dearly missed by his beloved wife of 56 years, Catherine; their two daughters, Lisa Eyer and Brenda Leerar, son-in-law Harry Lewis, and grandchildren Dana and Lindsey Eyer and Gabriella and Coleman Lewis. Marvin delighted in having his granddaughters Dana and Lindsey close by his entire life; his favorite role in life was that of “Pop Pop.”
The family will gather in a private virtual Celebration of Life on May 15.
