Obituaries » Richard M. “Dick” Kerns

Richard Mabry “Dick” Kerns, 79, of Myrtle Beach, S.C., passed away surrounded by loved ones on Monday, May 10, 2021.

Dick was born October 4, 1941, in Warrenton, to the late George Mabry Kerns and Dorothy Kerns.

Dick joined the Army in 1961 and was honorably discharged in 1967. He met Donna in Arlington and they married on October 20, 1961. Dick and Donna welcomed their first child, Robert, in March of 1966 and welcomed their daughter in July of 1972. Dick worked as an alarm installation foreman for Wells Fargo for 30 years before retiring.

Dick was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to many people. He could often be found spending quality time with his wife, fishing with his daughter at a local pier, hunting in Washington, Va., with his dearest friend Fred Dove, enjoying fudge ripple ice cream from the local Bruster’s Ice Cream Shop or giving treats to his cat, Sammy. Dick cherished his family dearly and could often be found behind the lens of a camera capturing special memories.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Donna Jean Kerns; his son, Robert Kerns and wife Trumania; his daughter, Karen Kerns; his sister Cheryl Kerns; his grandchildren, Brittani Kerns Gattis (husband Edward), Heather Kerns (son Liam), Alyssa Harrington (husband David), and many other loved nieces and nephews.

He will be laid to rest at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 19, at Culpeper National Cemetery. A reception will be held at Reynolds Memorial Baptist Church in Sperryville immediately following the graveside service.

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Condolences may be offered at www.moserfuneralhome.com.
