Richard Ray Thompson Jr., 67, of Orlean, passed away peacefully Thursday, November 4, 2021, at Inova Mount Vernon hospital in Alexandria with his wife by his side.
He was born July 3, 1954, in San Diego, California, to O’Neta Jo Thompson and the late Richard Ray Thompson Sr.
Richard grew up in Memphis, Tennessee, where he developed a thirst for entrepreneurship and adventure at an early age. He graduated with a business degree from Delta State University in 1977, followed by several years of living in the Middle East working in the healthcare services industry. It was in Yemen where he met the love of his life, Lourdes, who Richard married in Manila, Philippines, in 1983.
After many years of expat living, Richard settled his family in Northern Virginia, where his entrepreneurship spirit thrived as owner and operator of assisted living facilities. Richard was an avid reader, a lover of golf, a good bet, a hot fire, a nice glass of wine and quality time with family and friends. He was a mentor to many and exuded authenticity, integrity, loyalty and respect in all the lives he touched. Richard's smile, laugh and sense of humor will continue to live in all of our hearts.
Richard is survived by his wife of 38 years, Lourdes Rosales Thompson of Orlean; two daughters, Maria Kreul and husband Aaron of Herndon and Kristina “Kimmy” Milberg and husband Dan of Orlean; his mother, O’Neta Jo Thompson of Senatobia, Mississippi; two sisters, Pat Barmer and husband Bill, also of Senatobia, and Debbie Jones and husband Charles of Clayton, Georgia; his furry Maltese companion, Caymus “Mouse,” and many nieces and nephews.
