Obituaries » Thomas M. Shipley

Thomas Michael Shipley, 67, passed peacefully Friday, January 3, 2020, surrounded by his family and his best friend at his home in Warrenton.

He was born January 13, 1952, in Washington D.C., to the late Bert and Iris Shipley.

Tom was a retired CIA officer who had a passion for playing golf and spending time with his family. In his early years, Tom had a love for playing baseball and in 1971 he was signed to pitch for the Cincinnati Reds and received an offer from the Atlanta Braves. A shoulder injury prevented him from continuing his baseball career. His career with the CIA began in 1975.

Tom is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Kathryn J. Shipley; two children, Matthew B. Shipley and his wife Sarah of Bealeton, and Jennifer L. Walker, also of Bealeton; a brother, Mark A. Shipley and his wife Jill of Hilton Head, S.C., and three grandchildren, Abigail L. Walker, Avery K. Walker and Luke T. Shipley, all of Bealeton.

The service will take place at 3 p.m. Friday, January 10, 2020 at Moser Funeral Home in Warrenton. Interment will be private.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society and/or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
