Obituaries » William A. Long Jr.

William Arthur “Bill” Long Jr., 78, of Bealeton, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 21, 2020. At the time of his passing, Bill was a resident of Beth Sholom in Richmond.

He was born on October 15, 1941, in Fredericksburg, to the late William Arthur Long Sr. and Hilda Susan (Messick) Long. Along with his sister, Joan Elizabeth Jamerson, Bill was raised out in the countryside of Bealeton. In later years, Bill worked alongside his father in the family business, Long’s Trucking Company, which hauled steel pipe and concrete all along the East Coast.

Bill was an active member of the Midland Church of the Brethren. Together with his wife, Linda Hannah Long, he oversaw the building and organization of the Midland Christian Academy in Midland. Bill loved life. He took joy in being very humorous with his family and friends. As he neared retirement, he took delight in the annual family reunions at Midland and recounted many stories of his parents, grandparents and others. He was generous and thoughtful.

Bill is survived by his sister Joan Jamerson (Ken); his three sons, William Thomas “Tommy” Long (Paula), Brian “Keith” Long (Catherine) and “Kevin” Lynn Long (Lynn Price). He has numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Kristen Long Beichler (Benjamin) and their three sons, James, Nathaniel and Theodore; Calvin Clay Long, Daniel Mark Long, Adam Michael Long, Matthew James Long, Adia Marie Long, Anna Hope Long and a step-granddaughter, Amanda Hannah.

Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Hannah Long, and a stepdaughter, Tina Hannah Salyers.

There will be no visitation hours at the funeral home and a small private graveside service for immediate family members. Later, we will host a memorial service for Bill at the Midland Church of the Brethren, which will be posted in the local newspaper.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Midland Christian Academy to bless the little children who study there.

Condolences may be offered at www.moserfuneralhome.com.
