Leon M. Eggers, 88, of Warrenton, left his earthly life for God’s Heavenly Home on Thursday, August 8, 2019.
Leon was born February 9, 1931, in Jersey City, N.J., the third son of the late Andrew and Erna Eggers.
After graduating from Dickenson High School in Jersey City, he then attended the New Jersey Institute of Technology, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in engineering. He served in the U.S. Army during post-World War II reconstruction in Germany, followed by a career as an industrial engineer for the New York Central Railroad and later the American Can Co.
Leon will always be loved and remembered as a great husband, father, grandfather, neighbor, and friend. And, of course, for his longtime hobby of collecting toy electric trains.
Family members who will dearly miss him are his wife of 60 years, Patricia A. Eggers of Warrenton; two sons, Leon Eggers Jr. and wife Capri of Virginia Beach and Brad Eggers and wife Dawn and children Amanda and Matthew of Warrenton, and a daughter, Jeannine McClung and husband Ron and two children, Kaitlyn and Jessica, of Apex, N.C.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Andrew and Paul.
A memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 29, at the Greenwich Presbyterian Church Chapel, 15305 Vint Hill Road, Nokesville.
