Do you have a civic duty to follow CDC guidelines, which include wearing a mask, to curb COVID-19’s spread?

Gov. Ralph Northam stresses cooperation rather than mandates as Thanksgiving approaches. The CDC guidelines remain consistent.

Wow Bonnie C, I could come back at you and hope you die during the flu season as I am sure you never wore a mask except during Covid. You must be a real hit at all the parties. SHAMEFUL!

It worked in our case. My wife contracted Covid-19, she has since been cleared to go back to work, all symptoms gone except for lingering loss of taste and smell. I quarantined for two weeks, and so far so good. We wore masks all times around each other, separate sides of the house most of the time, and wiped down all surfaces and kept those surfaces to a minimum.

Of note she never had a FEVER the whole time.

Yep, Mark, the grifter continues. So many haven't recognized how Trump has totally taken advantage of them, and now he wants more so he has a slush fund to pay off his debts, probably buy some new real estate, keep up his continutous business attempts with Russia and Saudi Arabia, keep his kids out of the slammer, etc. Sorry, but there are so many Trump supporters who really need to wake up and realize that the useless Trump is simply taking their money for nothing, absolutely nothing, in return. Trump is playing millions of people for such huge suckers. Pitiful.

I'm wearing a mask, practicing social distancing and washing my hands until next year at the earliest. Those are sound, proven procedures, why not follow them. Just as wearing a seatbelt, not smoking, healthy diet and exercise are proven ways to maintain your health and life.

Now, if you are tired of living that's another story.

It's our civic and national duty to stop the IMPOTUS. Stop donating to his scheme.

"At the link to the “OFFICIAL ELECTION DEFENSE FUND,” the legalese at the end says something rather different:

Sixty percent of the contribution, up to $5,000, goes to “Save America,” Trump’s newly created leadership PAC. And 40 percent of the contribution up to $35,500, goes to the Republican National Committee’s operating account, its political (not legal) fund.
Only after reaching the first maximum would a single penny go to Trump’s “Recount Account,” and only after reaching the second maximum would a penny go to the RNC’s legal account.

“It’s a straight-up bait and switch,” Paul S. Ryan, the vice president of policy and litigation at Common Cause, tells me. Such email solicitations target small donors, so for the “overwhelming majority of people contributing … none of their money will end up in recount accounts” or be used for otherwise challenging the election.

Rather, it will be used to extend Trump’s influence over the RNC during the Biden presidency and to build up his leadership PAC, which amounts to a “slush fund” for Trump’s personal use. “There is no limit to how much Donald Trump can pay himself or any member of his family under ‘Save America,’” Ryan notes.

Earlier versions of the “election defense fund” email solicitations indicated the funds were to be used to retire Trump’s campaign debt. “Presumably he raised enough to retire that debt," says Ryan, "and he’s building this new slush fund.”

Should we be surprised?

Trump has used the presidency itself for self-enrichment, so there’s no reason to think an election defeat would stop him. He has funneled vast amounts of taxpayer dollars and political supporters’ funds to his hotels, golf clubs and various properties around the world. Over the years, he has used his charity for self-benefit, he has had favorable treatment by foreign governments, and he has had hundreds of millions in debt forgiven by creditors."

maude - No one said they wished you to get the virus and die. They said they don't care if you do if you don't care enough to wear a mask.

I have COPD as well as claustrophobia (from being almost suffocated as a young adult) and find wearing a mask a terrible experience - but I still do it. But there are those out there who can't for any number of reasons. For you to wish we get the disease and die is appalling and disgusting.

My daughter said it best: "If having to wear a mask is the worst thing that happened to me today, I had a pretty good day."

I live in Culpeper, & after watching our meteoric rise in cases every day, as well as seeing the large number of moronic yahoos waltzing around without masks, at this point I am starting to hope & pray that they all catch it & die, in a sort of Darwin's theory deal, & allow the rest of us with brains to save our country.

I have a duty to protect my family and friends AND myself. The rest of your mooks who don't think you need to wear a mask don't mean anything to me. Get sick, maybe die, I don't really care, do U? (thanks Melania Trump for the non-empathic saying of our times).

IMHO it's like our civic duty regarding reckless/under-the-influence driving. Be safe, be reasonable, look out for the other person, try not to get angry, keep your focus, etc. For the 20% who say "NO," I wish you would reconsider. Choose Life!

Splitting hairs with word choice there LIJ777, but you make a good point. I agree we all have a duty to help our society beat this pandemic, but some are choosing to ignore that duty.

Quite a few people seem to be confusing whether they HAVE a civic duty with whether they choose to DO their duty. And shame on the editors for not asking the more appropriate question, "Do you intend to do your civid duty and wear a mask to curb COVID-19's spread?"
