I welcome "the junky" look on Main Street as it might help the workers support their families and get off public assistance! I am all for this!!!
While it has helped the businesses, it does look rather junky driving down Main Street.
It's about want versus need. Businesses that survive deal in needs.
If Warrenton is missing a pulse it's because it's DEAD. Many towns and cities across the country have tried instituting pedestrian malls/streets on formerly vehicle thoroughfares in the last 60 years and most of them failed for a variety of reasons. Many localities switched back to streets with vehicular traffic and on-street parking. Warrenton suffers from a lack of adequate parking and the removal of valuable spaces on Main Street will soon have a negative impact on the town's commerce. The idea is good in the interim while we all try to survive during the pandemic but it is not a permanent solution to what ails Warrenton's businesses.
Main Street is closed for other events and people survive. Why not close that section from the Courthouse to 5th Street down until our economy gets back to pre-Covid19 business activities.

I agree with Lizst. I have eaten a couple of times at our Main Street makeshift outdoor space and I really enjoyed it.
I think making this a permanent change would be great. The restaurants could invest a little more in making that space look and feel like more than just a makeshift and temporary situation.
And there is no need to make this a summer only thing either. I eat outside on my own deck for about 10 months out of the year. Let them put up potted flowers and other things that separate the space year-round, and people will eat there most of the year as long as it isn't snowing.
Warrenton is missing a pulse. Outdoor seating is a big step in the right direction. Why is this a debate?
Sure, I'd like a salad with a side of F150 exhaust please!
Spring, Summer and Fall. Keep it neat please!
