Best Auto Parts, Best Auto Repair
Piedmont Tire & Auto
When your car needs an oil change or new tires, you seek a service center that offers the best work at the best price. Luckily Gainesville and Haymarket have two such centers with Piedmont Tire & Auto. Piedmont Tire & Auto’s reputation for quality work and high customer service standards is known by many, (and is the reason why they’ve won Best Of every year since the contest began), but what might surprise you is that in addition to the service center’s stellar customer service, it makes a difference in our community every day.
The family run business, operated by Stan Wood, opened in Gainesville in 1984. The original shop was torn down in 2002 when the Route 29 intersection expanded, and a larger service center was opened just around the corner on Hillwood Drive. With the rapid growth in Haymarket, the opportunity was ripe to help more customers, thus the opening of the service center on Washington Street in 2011. Both centers offer alignments, towing, computer diagnostics, brakes, state inspections and more.
Operations Manager and business partner John Filippone explained that Piedmont Tire & Auto’s business model is different from its competitors.
“We offer an honest place for people to bring their car and not worry about it. We don’t have a profit-first mentality.”
Filippone and Wood started the business after both felt that, at other shops, they were not getting honest quotes or quality service and the two have strived to live up to the company mission, “To provide honest, friendly, personal, professional, and courteous customer service in a manner unique to our industry” since Piedmont Tire & Auto opened its doors.
Many customers don’t realize that when they purchase tires at Piedmont Tire & Auto, they are getting them at cost. The shop doesn’t mark up the price and in so doing has forced other shops to follow suit.
“Customer service is what we’re all about, but community outreach is also very important to us. We take care of our customers and our community,” Filippone said. The shop routinely contributes to Haymarket non-profit Carried to Full Term and donates its time and service to fix cars for staff members and parishioners of local churches in need.
Piedmont Tire & Auto has given tires at no cost to families of children with pediatric cancer, military families and first responders, and it stays involved in local groups on social media to engage with the community. It was through this channel that the shop learned about the wife of a local service member on deployment who needed a car repair. The staff went to the house, towed the car, repaired and returned it. As a thank you, they were given a flag that was flown in Afghanistan where the husband was deployed.
Piedmont Tire & Auto also actively supports local teachers, other local businesses, and the Haymarket Police Department, giving police offers discount coupons they can give to drivers pulled over for defective equipment.
The company is truly all about its community. As Filippone said simply, “We like to help.”
