Nine-month-old Cooper, a doberman pinscher mix weighing about 70 pounds, is this week’s Fauquier County Pet of the Week.
“He is one smart cookie!” said Alex Vacek, Fauquier SPCA shelter manager. “We first met him when his owners were no longer able to care for him. His owner is in the military and travels quite a bit. Unfortunately, the caretaker of Cooper while the owner was gone wasn't able to provide the amount of attention he needed and he'd spend HOURS a day in a crate. So Cooper became an FSPCA resident.”
Cooper knows basic commands and loves to play fetch. He’s housebroken, gets along with other dogs and tested well with cats.
“He's going to do best in an energetic household … hiking, running marathons, playing in the yard,” Vacek said. “He can also help you figure out puzzles for treats and shake your hand when it's complete!”
Anyone interested in Cooper should visit the shelter at 9350 Rogues Road, Midland, and meet him to see if he’s a good fit.
There is a pre-adoption application that has to be filled out, and the approval process can take up to 48 hours. The application is not available online -- it must be filled out in person at the shelter.
