Joseph M. Obis, 74, of Chantilly, passed peacefully at his home on Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2014.
He was born Aug. 28, 1939, in Chicago, to the late Frank and Esther Obis.
Mr. Obis was a veteran of the U.S. Army and worked 25 years for the Virginia Department of Transportation in the Northern Virginia district office. He attended Mt. Holly Baptist Church near Remington and enjoyed flying, scuba diving and sailing.
Survivors include his loving wife of 15 years, Linda Lou Obis (nee Stewart); three children, John Stinson of Richmond, Steven Stinson and wife Heather of Chantilly and Sarah Stinson of Centreville; two nephews, George Obis Jr. and Theodore Obis, both of Mokena, Ill., and a large and cherished Virginia family.
He was preceded in death by his brother, George Obis Sr.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8, at Moser Funeral Home in Warrenton. The funeral will take place at 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, Mt. Holly Baptist Church, 6172 Sumerduck Road, Remington. Interment will follow at the Stewart Family Cemetery on Stewart Road, Sumerduck.
