Thomas Freeland Mason Jr., 94, of Richmond and formerly of Warrenton, died February 5, 2019.
He was born April 26, 1924, in Colonial Beach, to the late Thomas Freeland Mason and Adelaide Billingsley van Laer.
Mr. Mason graduated from Christchurch School and Virginia Tech.
He served in the Army during World War II and the Korean War. For many years he worked in real estate, insurance and appraisals in Warrenton.
Mr. Mason was the 1959 Outstanding National Chairman of the U.S. Jaycees. In 1979, he was the Fauquier County Realtor of the Year. He served on the Warrenton Town Council and was president and a Paul Harris Fellow of the Warrenton Rotary Club. He was a member of the executive board of the Episcopal Diocese of Virginia.
Mr. Mason retired to Kilmarnock, where he enjoyed catching fish and crabs. He was active in the Virginia Waterman's Association and affiliated with the Kairos Prison Ministry. He later moved to Westminster Canterbury in Richmond.
He is survived by his children, Thomas Mason, Hardy Mason and Dee Mason; his grandchildren Renee Van Sickle, Jeremy Mason and Nicole Mason, and a great-granddaughter, Alethea Mason.
The funeral will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 23, at Church of the Epiphany in Richmond. Interment will follow at 2 p.m. at St. John's Episcopal Church in King George.
Memorial contributions may be made to Christchurch School.
